Our History on South Trail

We purchased South Trail in December of 2007 in San Francisco Bay for $30,000.  Before our purchase of her, she was primarily used for day sailing around the bay. Although she lacked many of the cruising/liveaboard amenities that we ultimately desired for the Newport 41, her hull and rigging were in very good condition for her age.  Her 32hp Universal Diesel was in good condition with very low hours.  It looked as though "Goldie", the diesel, was primarily used for docking.  She had no ground tackle, which pulled into clear focus the need for a clear weather window for our maiden voyage down the coast to Channel Islands Harbor.  No roadstead anchorage options without an anchor set-up.

After a month of going through systems, and waiting for the perfect weather window, we cast off.  We were so thankful to have two crew along with us on this non-stop journey.  Mike was an experienced cruising sailor, and Nelson, who recently purchased our first sailboat, was new to multi-day sailing...  If you are interested in our preparation and 2010 Mexico cruise blog, please visit http://southtrail.blogspot.com
